Scholarship Funds

Anne Mauzy Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1992 by Anne and Oscar Mauzy to support a student at UT-Austin pursuing a career in the public schools, preferably in early childhood education.

Braniff Clipped B’s Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1993 by a group of former flight attendants for Braniff Airlines to support a student at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Donna Russell Fox Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1997 to support a student from Texas pursuing a doctoral degree at any accredited university in the United States. The award may be renewed for a total of three years.

Elnita O. Stanley Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1998 by a group of alumni from Stephen F. Austin State University to honor Elnita O. Stanley. The scholarship supports a student at SFASU.

Gardner Gateley Endowed Scholarship Fund - Established in 2001, this scholarship award is intended for a full-time student in the graduate program of Speech-Language Pathology at Baylor University. The scholarship supports those graduate students who demonstrate outstanding clinical skills and the potential to become an exceptional clinician.

Gilbert C. Hanke Endowed Scholarship Fund - Established in 2005 by friends and former students of Gilbert C. Hanke, this scholarship supports a graduate student in Speech/Language Pathology at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Grace Middleton Scholarship Fund - Awarded for the first time in 2005, this scholarship fund was created by the El Paso Speech and Hearing Association to support a graduate student in Speech/Language Pathology at the University of Texas El Paso.

Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD) Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1997 to support a graduate student at the University of Houston or Lamar University.

Jeanne Braniff Terrell Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 1988 by the Braniff Women’s Auxiliary in memory of Jeanne Braniff Terrell. The recipient must attend one of four north Texas universities.

Jon Ashby Endowed Scholarship Fund - Established in 2005 by friends and former students of Dr. Jon Ashby, the scholarship supports a graduate student in Speech/Language Pathology at Abilene Christian University.

Judith Keller Scholarship Fund - Awarded for the first time in 2005, this fund was created by the NSSLHA Chapter from Texas Tech HSC and the South Plains Speech, Language and Hearing Association to support a graduate student in Speech/Language Pathology attending Texas Tech University.

Madeline Brand Endowed Scholarship Fund - Established in 2007, the award is intended for students enrolled in the Department of Speech Language Pathology at UTEP and the Department of Special Education/Communication Disorders at NMSU. The scholarship will be awarded in alternate years to speech-language pathology students from UTEP and NMSU. This scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2008.

Margaret Cooper Crabtree Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established in 2001, this scholarship is awarded to a student currently enrolled in a graduate program of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Houston. The student must have worked in a public school setting and/or expressed an interest in continuing to work in the public schools as a speech-language pathologist.

San Antonio Speech-Language-Hearing Association Endowment Fund - Established in 1999-2000, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate student enrolled in the program of Communication Disorders at Our Lady of the Lake University. Three candidates will be selected by the designated faculty/staff of the university. The names of these candidates will be submitted to SASHLA who will choose the finalist.

Sara Haynes Endowed Scholarship Fund - Established in 2001, this scholarship is intended for a full-time student in an accredited speech-language pathology program in the state of Texas who demonstrates specific interest in and commitment to clinical interventions with adults with neurogenic disorders.

Sherry Sancibrian Scholarship Endowment Fund - Established 1994 by the South Plains Speech-Language-Hearing Associaton and the Texas Tech Chapter of National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to support a student at Texas Tech University.

Elizabeth Carrow Woolfolk Scholarship – Established in 2006, this scholarship is intended for a student enrolled in the Department of Communication and Learning Disorders at Our Lady of the Lake University. Students to receive this scholarship will be selected by the Chairperson of the Department of Communication and Learning Disorders and a committee to be appointed by that Chair.

Research Funds

Recipients of all Research Grants are selected by the Research Committee of the Foundation. The Research Grant Application Form is available for download at the bottom of this page.

Tina E. Bangs Research Endowment Fund - Established by Tina Bangs in 1992 to support research in an education setting.

Lear Ashmore Research Endowment Fund - Established in 1992, this general Research Fund of the Foundation was named to honor Lear Ashmore.

President’s Research Endowment Fund - Established in 1993 by ten Past Presidents of the Texas Speech Language Hearing Association, the fund has been added to by additional Past Presidents

Empress Zedler Research Endowment Fund - Established in 1999 by former student and colleagues of Empress Zedler to support research in the areas of reading and writing.

Sandy Friel-Patti Research in Child Language International Travel Fund -Established in 2004 by the family and friendsof Dr. Sandy Friel-Patti, Past President of TSHA and of the Foundation. Supports travel to present doctorial research in child language in an international venue.

Sondra’s Money - Established in 2002 by the family and friends of Sondra Fields who dedicated her work in providing quality services in the public school setting. This is a bridge fund that may be used to support either scholarship or research.

Educational Funds

Pat Cole Educational Program Fund - Established in 1992 by Anne Mauzy to award an honorarium to the guest speaker chosen for the Annual Awards event, and amended to support individuals presenting at a Foundation or TSHA event.

Oscar H. Mauzy Educational Program Endowment Fund - Established in 1994 by Anne Mauzy to honor her husband and to help finance the annual Mauzy Leadership Conference.

Additional Funds

General Fund - Profits from fund-raising activities, annual dinner, Leadership conferences, funds from undesignated donations, and TSHA dues check-off are kept in this fund. Foundation expenses are paid from this fund. Interest from this fund can be used to augment other funds at the Board’s discretion.

Frank Brister Capital Endowment Fund - Established in 1999 to generate capital so that members of the board of the Foundation may more effectively carry out their mission.

Marguerite Burtis and Peter Vogel Community Service Endowment Fund - Established in 2001. This Patron level fund is intended to advance the work of speech-language pathologists who exceed expectations in providing services that benefit the community at large or who advance the field of speech-language pathology.

Lynch Endowment of the Foundation - Established in 2001. This fund is intended to support the Foundation’s mission of funding scholarships, research grants, and educational programs. Chairs of the Research, Scholarships, and Educational Programs Committees may apply for additional funds to supplement an award to be made to a particularly worthy researcher, graduate student, or to support an educational program of note. The first award was available to the Board in 2002.
